Como territorio, categoría o idea, América Latina ha sido un frente común en términos geopolíticos, económicos y culturales. ¿Qué ha representado esto en la conservación del patrimonio musical que resguardan nuestros museos e instituciones? ¿Qué se entiende por patrimonio en las múltiples y diversas comunidades que conforman esta región? ¿Qué características tienen los recintos que lo resguardan, preservan y promueven? ¿Quiénes están a su cargo y qué perfiles tienen? ¿Hay programas especializados en su salvaguarda? ¿Es el “museo de música” la única figura que permite comprender integralmente los significados de nuestro patrimonio musical? Estas son solo algunas preguntas que nacen a partir de reflexiones conjuntas en torno a las distintas situaciones en América Latina. Cada pregunta plantea un universo de particularidades que bien vale la pena compartir en un coloquio enfocado en esta región.

Por lo anterior, el Consejo Internacional de Museos (ICOM) desde sus sedes nacionales en América Latina y el Caribe, el Comité Internacional de Museos y Colecciones de Instrumentos y Música (CIMCIM) y la Asociación Internacional para la Protección del Patrimonio Cultural (ASINPPAC) los invita cordialmente a participar en un encuentro que tendrá lugar del 10 al 12 de julio de 2023, cuyo objetivo será exponer investigaciones y casos en torno a la organología, la conservación, la restauración, la documentación, la divulgación, la museografía, la museología y el coleccionismo de patrimonio musical latinoamericano, especialmente del que se encuentra en colecciones privadas o públicas, museos, instituciones académicas o instituciones dedicadas a la divulgación cultural.

Las contribuciones se organizarán en las siguientes temáticas:

• Investigaciones histórico-organológicas

Trabajos relacionados con la historia cultural, social, política o económica de la música y de los instrumentos musicales en cualquier época y región de América Latina y el Caribe, así como estudios sobre las cualidades formales, tecnológicas y de uso de instrumentos musicales en museos e instituciones.

• Documentación, restauración y preservación

Estudios que presenten teorías y metodologías relacionadas con estos tres ámbitos de la Conservación.

• Gestión, museología y museografía

Trabajos de profesionales del ámbito museístico que tengan a su cargo patrimonio musical. El objetivo será mostrar sus líneas de investigación y formas de actuación en diferentes condiciones, así como su relación con el público al que se dirigen.

• Educación.

Contribuciones que describan proyectos educativos en espacios dedicados al aprendizaje y a la profesionalización de la conservación del patrimonio musical.

Requisitos:

• Presentar un resumen curricular de 200 palabras.
• Enviar un resumen de la presentación cuya extensión sea de 250 palabras máximo, con cinco palabras clave sobre el tema.

El límite para la entrega de contribuciones será el domingo 30 de abril de 2023 y deberán ser enviadas al correo coloquiolat2023@gmail.com. Son bienvenidas las propuestas en español, inglés, francés y portugués.

La modalidad del coloquio será virtual.

 

The conservation of musical heritage in museums and institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean

As a territory, category, or idea, Latin America has been a common front in geopolitical, economic, and cultural terms. What has this represented in the conservation of musical heritage safeguarded by our museums and institutions? What is understood by heritage in the multiple and diverse communities that make up this region, and what are the characteristics of the venues that safeguard, preserve, and promote it? Who is in charge of their documentation, conservation and management, and what are their profiles? Are there programs specialized to safeguard their musical properties? Is the “music museum” the only entity that allows us to comprehensively understand their meanings? These are just a few questions that arise from joint reflections on the different situations in Latin America. Each question raises a universe of possibilities that are well worth sharing in a colloquium focused on this region.

Therefore, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) from its national headquarters in Latin America and the Caribbean, the International Committee of Museums and Collections of Instruments and Music (CIMCIM), and the International Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage (ASINPPAC) cordially invite you to participate in a meeting that will take place from 10-12 July 2023, whose objective will be to present research and case studies on organology, conservation, restoration, documentation, dissemination, museography, museology, and collecting of Latin American musical heritage, especially in private or public collections, museums, academic institutions, or institutions dedicated to cultural dissemination.

Contributions will be organized into the following topics:

• Historical-organological research

Works related to the cultural, social, political, or economic history of music and musical instruments of any period and region in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as studies on the formal, technological, and functional qualities of musical instruments in museums and institutions.

• Documentation, restoration, and preservation

Studies presenting theories and methodologies related to these three areas of Conservation.

• Management, museology and museography

Papers by museum professionals in charge of musical heritage. The objective will be to demonstrate their lines of research and forms of action in different conditions, as well as their relationship with the public to whom they are addressed.

• Education

Contributions describing educational projects for spaces dedicated to learning and professionalization of musical-heritage conservation.

Requirements:

• Submit a curricular summary of 200 words.
• Send a summary of the presentation with a maximum length of 250 words, with five key words on the topic.

Proposals in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese are welcome.
